Answering the Call

Our Young Adult Ministry at the Cathedral is constantly trying to live out the Gospel in thought, word and deed. As one saint put it, we bring to the altar the gold in our hearts, the frankincense of prayer in our minds and the myrrh of sacrifice in our bodies. In other words we try to come together with our time, talent and treasure to further the kingdom of God on earth. We are trying to accept and carry out the challenge of Pope John Paul II when he calls us to build brick by brick (relationship by relationship) the city of God within the city of man, building a civilization of life, peace, and love. A dream that our forefathers had for this country when they mention life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This country and this ministry have a great call to accept our responsibilities and take the necesary actions needed to rebuild this broken world.
At the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Blessed Mother stretches out her hands, inviting the parishes in this diocese to come together in prayer. We do this on a regular basis on Friday nights from 6:00-7:00pm at the Cathedral in the MacDougal Chapel on the corner of Calhoun and Jefferson.
In this holy hour we pray as a group in the presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, adore Jesus in silence, and receive the blessing of Benediction. With the help of the Blessed Mother and Jesus we are given graces necessary to carry out this call to build. We talk to the material provider (Heavenly Father), the architect (Jesus) and go to the formen (priests) regualarly for instruction. We try to carry those things out with the tools (graces) we've been given, and with the help of our Mother and on the job trainer (Mary). Mary teaches us to use what we have been given to build this civilization of life, peace, and love. We invite all of you to come. The harvest is plenty, but the laborers are few. May the most Immaculate heart of Mary inspire many yeses to the Lord's call. I'll conclude with a few quotes from Pope John Paul II:
-Young people listening to me, answer the Lord with stong and generous hearts! He is counting on you. Never forget: Christ needs you to carry out his plan of salvation! Christ needs your youth and your generous enthusiasm to make his proclamation of joy resound in the new millennnium. Answer his call by placing your lives at his sevice in your brothers and sisters! Trust Christ, because he trusts you!
-Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is an important daily practice and becomes an inexhaustible source of holiness... It is pleasant to spend time with Christ, to lie close to his breast like the Beloved Disciple and to feel the infinite love present in his heart.
-The simple prayer of the Rosary marks the rhythm of human life. Anyone who contemplates Christ through the various stage of his life cannot fail to perceive in him the truth about man. It is only in the mystery of the Word made flesh that the mystery of man is seen in its true light. The rosary helps to open up the way to this light.

Standing for the Unborn
On this feast of the Annunciation of Our Lord, we, the leadership of the Jesuits in the United States, fervently renew our opposition to abortion and our support for the unborn. In treating this delicate and controversial topic, we hope to provide our brother Jesuits, colleagues, parishioners and students with the spiritual leadership and ethical guidance they expect from us. As an international ...

Life isn't just about being alive. It's about living. Instead of killing the spirits of people we know, why not take steps to give them life? |

The Real WORD
Remember "sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me"? Whether people want to believe it or not, words can kill.
